https://www.nsenergybusiness.com/news/p ... arlim-sul/Petrobras announces new pre-salt oil discovery in Marlim Sul
Identification of the oil-bearing interval was based on wireline logs, hydrocarbon shows and fluid sampling.
27th Mar 2026
Petrobras has announced a new oil discovery in the Marlim Sul field in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin off the coast of Brazil.
According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the find was made through an exploration well, 3-BRSA-1397-RJS. The well was drilled 113km offshore from Campos dos Goytacazes in Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of 1,178m.
Identification of the oil-bearing interval was based on wireline logs, hydrocarbon shows and fluid sampling.
These samples will undergo laboratory analysis to evaluate the characteristics of the discovered reservoirs and fluids, facilitating further assessment of the area’s potential.
The Marlim Sul field has been under Petrobras’ operation since its discovery in November 1987 via well 4-RJS-382.
Petrobras, which has full ownership of the field, reported that drilling operations related to 3-BRSA-1397-RJS concluded safely, following health, safety and environmental standards.
Located approximately 36km from the coastline, the Copoazu-1 well is situated at a water depth of 964m and is positioned 8km from both the Sirius-1 discovery and the Sirius-2 appraisal wells.
Drilling operations at Copoazu-1 commenced in November 2025 and are proceeding safely, with due consideration for environmental and human factors.
In recent years, oil has emerged as Brazil’s leading export, with the country benefitting from higher global oil prices, according to a GlobalData TS Lombard report authored by Elizabeth Johnson.
Brazil’s investment in oil and gas production has made it less vulnerable to prevailing oil shocks, even as it pursues renewable energy leadership.
Since becoming a net exporter in 2006, Brazil remains dependent on international markets for refined products, particularly diesel, due to insufficient refining capacity.
Despite increased domestic output, diesel imports rose by almost 20% to 17.3 billion litres last year.
Petrobras is working in the Campos Basin to replace reserves in an aging, long-producing region, supporting the company’s long-term viability and helping meet Brazil’s energy needs as the country broadens its energy mix.
Prior to this, Petrobras announced a new gas discovery at the Copoazu-1 exploratory well in Block GUA-OFF-O in Colombia’s deep offshore waters. This find strengthens both the gas province and the potential for gas resources offshore Colombia, contributing to regional energy security with increased gas reserves.

https://www.nsenergybusiness.com/news/p ... p-79-fpso/Petrobras starts oil output at Búzios 8 via P-79 FPSO
The P-79 FPSO can produce 180,000bbl of oil and compress 7.2mcm of gas each day.
4th May 2026
P-79 is the eighth production platform to operate in the Búzios field. Credit: Petrobras.
Petrobras has started oil production at the Búzios 8 project via the P-79 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO)-type unit in the Búzios field, situated in the pre-salt layer of the Brazil’s Santos Basin.
The start-up comes earlier than planned in the company’s Business Plan for 2026–2030.
P-79, which arrived in Brazil from South Korea in February this year, is the eighth production platform to operate in the Búzios field. The FPSO is capable of processing 180,000 barrels (bbl) of oil and compressing 7.2 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas each day.
The addition raises Búzios field’s total installed oil production capacity to about 1.33 million barrels per day (mbbl/d).
The Búzios 8 project is also expected to enhance Brazil’s gas supply by up to 3mcm daily through an interconnection with the ROTA 3 gas pipeline.
The P-79 FPSO arrived at its destination carrying commissioning and operations teams. According to Petrobras, this transit removed the need for a stop in sheltered Brazilian waters and contributed to improvements in safety, reliability and operational readiness by enabling system commissioning to advance while en route.
The FPSO’s design aims to enhance operational efficiency and reduce emissions.
As part of the Búzios 8 Production Development project, the platform is linked to 14 wells. The development includes eight producers and six injectors, each featuring intelligent completion systems for optimised production control.
The unit will use rigid pipelines for production, injection, and gas export, while flexible pipelines are designated for service lines, supporting the planned high-capacity production from the field’s wells.
Discovered in 2010, the Búzios field is located 180km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in the ultra-deep waters of more than 2,000m. It is said to be the world’s largest deep-water pre-salt oilfield.
The field is operated by a consortium that includes Petrobras as the operator, with CNOOC and CNODC as Chinese partners. PPSA oversees the management of production-sharing agreements within the consortium.
Last year, Búzios surpassed an output of 1mbbl/d.
Existing operations at Búzios apart from the new vessel include FPSOs P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, Almirante Barroso, Almirante Tamandaré, and P-78, which began operating in December 2025.
Additional FPSOs, encompassing P-80, P-82, and P-83, are under construction, and a contract for Búzios 12 is under consideration.
When all units are completed, the field will have 12 FPSOs in total.
In January 2026, Petrobras and its partners initiated oil production at the Búzios 6 project via the P-78 FPSO unit in the Búzios field.

Re: Petrobras
https://oilprice.com/Company-News/Petro ... n-Bpd.htmlPetrobras' Búzios Oil Field Sets New Output Record at 1.1 Million Bpd
By Charles Kennedy - Jun 25, 2026
Petrobras said its flagship Búzios field in Brazil's Santos Basin pre-salt province has reached a record average daily production of 1.1 million barrels of oil, surpassing the previous milestone of 1 million barrels per day achieved in October 2025.
The new record reflects accelerating output from the recently commissioned P-78 and P-79 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) units, which are still ramping toward their nameplate capacities of 180,000 barrels per day each. Petrobras said additional wells continue to be brought online as production expands.
Búzios is Brazil's largest producing oil field and also holds the country's largest proven reserves. The asset accounts for roughly one-third of all oil production operated by Petrobras in Brazil, including partner volumes, and nearly half of the company's equity production.
The field currently produces through eight offshore facilities: FPSOs P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, P-78, P-79, Almirante Barroso, and Almirante Tamandaré, the latter being Brazil's largest-capacity production unit at 270,000 barrels per day.
Petrobras plans to further expand the development, with a total of 12 FPSOs ultimately operating at Búzios. Three additional units—P-80, P-82, and P-83—are under construction, while a twelfth production unit remains in the procurement phase.
The company said engineering, project management, and technology improvements have helped accelerate the deployment of new production units by shortening construction schedules and preparing field infrastructure ahead of installation.
Located in ultra-deep waters more than 2,000 meters below sea level, Búzios contains some of Brazil's highest-productivity wells, benefiting from thick, highly permeable carbonate reservoirs and relatively light crude oil. Petrobras said the field is only the second in its portfolio to exceed 1 million barrels per day of production after the neighboring Tupi field, also in the Santos Basin pre-salt.
The Búzios production-sharing consortium is operated by Petrobras alongside China's CNOOC and CNODC, with Brazil's state-owned PPSA managing the federal government's production-sharing interests.

Re: Petrobras
https://oilprice.com/Company-News/Petro ... -High.htmlPetrobras Q2 Oil and Gas Output Hits Record as Refining Runs Reach New High
By Charles Kennedy - Jul 28, 2026
Petrobras reported record oil and gas production in the second quarter of 2026, as new floating production units and stronger operational performance boosted upstream volumes while the company's refineries operated at their highest utilization rate on record.
The Brazilian state-controlled producer said its average equity production of oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas reached 3.34 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) during the quarter. That was 14.1% higher than a year earlier and 3.4% above the first quarter, setting a new company record.
The increase was driven by improved operating efficiency and production ramp-ups at the Maria Quitéria FPSO in the Jubarte field, the Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO in the Mero field, the P-78 unit, and the startup of the P-79 platform at the giant Búzios field in Brazil's pre-salt Santos Basin. Petrobras said these gains were partly offset by natural declines at mature fields.
During the quarter, Petrobras brought 10 new production wells online, including four in the Campos Basin and six in the Santos Basin.
Búzios continued to underpin the company's production growth. The field's platforms exceeded 1.1 million barrels per day of production on June 23 before reaching 1.2 million bpd three days later, while average monthly production surpassed 1 million bpd for the first time in June. Petrobras said the P-79 platform entered production on May 1, three months ahead of the schedule outlined in its current business plan. The unit has capacity to produce 180,000 bpd of oil and compress 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day, increasing installed production capacity at Búzios to about 1.33 million bpd.
The company also reported that the Almirante Tamandaré FPSO recorded average oil production of 253,000 bpd in June, making it Brazil's highest-producing offshore platform.
Mero averaged around 740,000 bpd during the quarter, while Petrobras said other Santos Basin assets, including Tupi, Sépia, Atapu, Itapu, Sapinhoá, and Berbigão, maintained stable production levels despite no new production systems entering service.
In downstream operations, Petrobras said refinery utilization reached a record 101.2%, surpassing the previous high set in 2014. The company attributed the performance to high operational availability, allowing it to expand domestic fuel supply amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty while reducing imports of refined products to 67,000 bpd, the lowest quarterly level on record.
Refined product output rose to 1.918 million bpd, up 10.9% from a year earlier and 5.6% from the first quarter. Diesel S10 and jet fuel production both reached quarterly records, while diesel, jet fuel, and gasoline accounted for 68% of total refinery output.
Petrobras also said pre-salt crude represented 73% of refinery feedstock during the quarter. In April, the company reached a milestone under its RefTOP modernization program, enabling all of its refineries to process 100% pre-salt crude when economically advantageous.
Higher crude production also lifted exports to nearly 1 million bpd, while crude imports fell to 89,000 bpd, their lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the quarter's operational milestones, Petrobras reported record operated production of 4.87 million boe/d, record pre-salt operated production of 4.24 million boe/d, and record equity pre-salt production of 2.78 million boe/d, underscoring the growing contribution of Brazil's prolific offshore pre-salt developments to the company's output growth.

Re: Petrobras

Re: Petrobras
https://oilprice.com/Company-News/Petro ... in-Q3.htmlPetrobras Oil and Gas Output Jumps 11.7% to Record High in Q3
By Charles Kennedy - Oct 28, 2026
Brazilian state-controlled oil giant Petrobras reported record oil and gas production in the third quarter of 2026, supported by rising output from major offshore developments and its highest operational efficiency levels in nearly eight years.
The company produced an average of 3.512 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), including crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas, representing an 11.7% increase from the same period last year and a 5.3% rise from the second quarter of 2026.
Petrobras attributed the growth primarily to production ramp-ups at the P-78 and P-79 floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units in the Búzios field and the Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO in the Mero field, both located in Brazil's prolific Santos Basin.
Improved equipment reliability and fewer maintenance-related disruptions also contributed to the results, with operational efficiency reaching its highest level since the fourth quarter of 2018.
Petrobras' own pre-salt production reached a record 2.96 million boe/d, up from 2.78 million boe/d in the previous quarter. Total operated production, which includes volumes attributable to partners, climbed to a record 5.08 million boe/d, while operated pre-salt output reached 4.46 million boe/d.
The company brought 12 new producing wells online during the quarter, split evenly between the Campos and Santos basins.
At the Mero field, the Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO reached its original design capacity of 180,000 barrels per day in August before achieving a new daily production peak of 190,000 barrels in September following a capacity expansion.
The Mero field's platforms collectively produced an average of 760,000 barrels per day during the quarter, making it Brazil's third-largest producing oilfield behind Búzios and Tupi.
Meanwhile, the Almirante Tamandaré FPSO at Búzios achieved a record monthly average of 263,000 barrels per day in July, retaining its position as Brazil's highest-producing offshore platform.
Petrobras is preparing for further growth at Búzios, with the P-80 and P-82 FPSOs departing Singapore for Brazil on September 30 and October 18, respectively. Both platforms are scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and each has a nominal oil production capacity of 225,000 barrels per day.
The additional capacity highlights the central role of Brazil's deepwater pre-salt reserves in Petrobras' production expansion strategy.
The company's downstream operations also delivered strong results. Domestic refined product sales reached 1.854 million barrels per day, up 6.4% from the previous quarter and the highest level since the third quarter of 2021. The figure also represented the strongest performance under Petrobras' current refining configuration.
Diesel sales increased 14.4% quarter over quarter, while jet fuel sales climbed 9.9%.
Petrobras' refineries operated at a utilization rate of 99%, five percentage points above the year-earlier period. Diesel production reached a quarterly record of 769,000 barrels per day.
The company also reported record exports of crude oil and refined products totaling 1.251 million barrels per day, underscoring the growing importance of offshore production and export logistics to its operations.
For Petrobras, the latest production records demonstrate continued momentum in its pre-salt expansion program, with additional offshore capacity expected to support output growth into 2027.

https://oilprice.com/Company-News/Petro ... Coast.htmlPetrobras Makes Third Oil Discovery Offshore Brazil's Amapá Coast
By Charles Kennedy - Oct 29, 2026
Brazilian state-controlled oil giant Petrobras has confirmed a third oil discovery at its Morpho exploration well offshore Amapá, marking another exploration success in Brazil's potentially resource-rich Equatorial Margin.
The latest discovery was made in block FZA-M-59 in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, approximately 175 kilometers off Brazil's northern coast, in water depths of 2,886 meters (9,469 feet).
Petrobras said Thursday that further evaluation of geological formations identified another oil-bearing interval, following discoveries announced in August and early October 2026.
All three discoveries were made within the same exploration well, reinforcing the company's confidence in the petroleum potential of the largely unexplored basin.
Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard said the findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the company's technical approach and strengthen its optimism about future exploration opportunities along the Equatorial Margin.
Petrobras has completed drilling and geological data acquisition at Morpho and will now proceed with plugging and abandoning the exploratory well.
Following completion of those operations, the NS-42 drilling rig will relocate to the Potiguar Basin offshore Rio Grande do Norte, where it is scheduled to drill the Mãe de Ouro prospect.
While the latest discovery adds to the geological evidence supporting the Equatorial Margin's resource potential, Petrobras has not disclosed estimates of recoverable oil volumes or established whether the discoveries are commercially viable.
Further technical evaluation will be necessary before any potential development decisions.
...........................
Under its 2026–2030 business plan, Petrobras has earmarked approximately $2.5 billion for exploration along Brazil's Equatorial Margin, including plans to drill 15 wells over five years.
..........................
