Application lodged for Poland's first nuclear power plant

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has submitted an application to Poland's National Atomic Energy Agency for a construction permit for the country's first nuclear power plant.
One of the key elements of the documentation submitted with the licence application is the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR). This report is one of the most important attachments, detailing the power plant design and its location. It also includes comprehensive analyses of technical and environmental factors demonstrating that the proposed solutions meet all requirements for nuclear safety, physical protection, radiological protection, and nuclear material safeguards for this type of facility.

KN Energies Selected as Commercial and Operational Advisor for the FSRU Project in the Gulf of Gdańsk

International terminal operator KN Energies has been awarded a contract by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. to provide commercial and operational advisory services for the FSRU project in the Gulf of Gdańsk in Poland.
The first stage of the terminal, based on a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), will receive LNG delivered by sea, regasify it and supply natural gas to Poland’s transmission system. It is expected to provide up to 6.1 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year and is planned to be commissioned in 2028. In March 2026 GAZ-SYSTEM launched the FSRU 2 Open Season aimed at increasing the regasification capacity of the FSRU terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk.
KN Energies’ role will include commercial and operational advisory services for the FSRU project, drawing on the company’s strong expertise in floating LNG infrastructure, gained through the long-term operation of the Klaipėda LNG terminal and participation in multiple FSRU and floating terminal projects across Europe.
The Gulf of Gdańsk FSRU development is strategically important for Poland and the wider Baltic Sea region, aimed at strengthening gas supply diversification and long-term energy security.

Beyond the Klaipėda LNG terminal, there are currently 14 floating LNG terminals in operation or under construction across the European Union. KN Energies has been or is involved in projects related to 8 of these terminals, representing approximately 57% of all such projects in the EU, covering project development, commercial structuring, operational advisory and long-term terminal operations. This positions the company among the most experienced FSRU players in the European market.

Situé dans la ville de Stary Grodków, dans le sud du pays, le projet d’une capacité de 50 MW (120 MWh) fait l’objet d’un contrat de capacité de 17 ans avec l’opérateur du réseau électrique polonais, pour notamment faciliter l’intégration des actifs de production d’énergie renouvelable.

Le Français EDF power solutions a mis en service sa première batterie en Pologne. Il s’agit de l’installation la plus puissante du pays avec une capacité de 50 MW (120 MWh). Situé dans la ville de Stary Grodków, dans le sud du pays, le projet fait l’objet d’un contrat de capacité de 17 ans avec l’opérateur du réseau électrique polonais. Le système de stockage d’énergie par batterie (BESS) de Stary Grodków se compose de 24 conteneurs de modules associés à des infrastructures électriques dont un poste de transformation et un raccordement au réseau 110 kV.
La mise en service de Stary Grodków s’inscrit dans la stratégie d’EDF power solutions de développement des batteries en Pologne avec plusieurs projets sécurisés pour une capacité totale de 370 MW. Ces capacités de stockage apporteront de la flexibilité au réseau électrique et faciliteront l’intégration des actifs de production d’énergie renouvelable dans le cadre de la décarbonation du mix électrique polonais. « Les investissements comme celui de Stary Grodków renforcent la stabilité du réseau. Le groupe PGE (Polska Grupa Energetyczna) prévoit de développer plus de 80 installations de stockage d’énergie par batteries d’une capacité totale dépassant 10 000 MWh, qui seront situées à côté des postes électriques existants dans toute la Pologne », a déclaré Miłosz Motyka, ministre de l’Énergie.
