(Rhode Island)
5 turbines de 6 MW.

Historic summer for US offshore wind energy development leads up to Offshore WINDPOWER 2015

.................

Steel in the water in Rhode Island

In a milestone for the offshore industry, steel went into the water earlier this summer as construction began on the Block Island Wind Farm, the first offshore project in the U.S. The 5-turbine Block Island Wind Farm will provide 30 MW of power for Block Island residents, who will see their energy costs decrease as a result of the deployment of this zero-carbon resource. This project may lead the way for many similar projects near coastal communities in the U.S.

Toujours moins.

production annuelle de 36 teraW.h va bientot dépasser le nucléaire à 39 teraW.h (Texas)

Facts about wind energy in Texas

October 3, 2015 evwind

Image

Texas has the highest wind generation in the country

With nearly 9,400 turbines scattered throughout the state, Texas produces nearly 36 million megawatt (MWh) hours of electricity – that’s equivalent to almost as much as the state’s nuclear fleet (at 39 million MWh). Today, wind energy accounts for 10% of local power generation in Texas, and the potential for wind energy in Texas is even higher. According to the American Wind Energy Association, wind could power over 18 times the state’s current energy needs, and that is with current technology.

Wind power in the U.S. grew to 70 gigawatts of electric power generating capacity spread across 50,000 wind turbines in November — enough renewable energy to power 19 million homes, the American Wind Energy Association announced Monday.

Image

Renewable energy, including wind and solar, are major parts of the federal government’s plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions from electric power plants — the primary driver of climate change.

About 4.5 percent of U.S. electricity comes from wind turbines. The Department of Energy hopes wind could supply as much as 35 percent of the nation’s power by 2050. Since 2008, wind power in the U.S. has grown from 16.7 gigawatts to about 70 gigawatts today.

Growth in wind power slowed in recent years after Congress allowed a tax credit for wind power production to expire in 2013. The U.S. hit 60 gigawatts of wind power in 2012, when developers were racing to build new wind farms in order to take advantage of the tax credit. The boom created a wind power development rush that boosted U.S. wind power capacity beyond both the 50 gigawatt and 60 gigawatt milestones in the same year.

This month, Congress extended the wind production tax credit through 2019. The American Wind Energy Association expects the extension, along with a 66 percent drop in the cost of producing wind power since 2009, to spark another boom.

Texas does it again in wind power

January 16, 2016 evwind

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and the state has definitely been setting some big records.

Wind energy recently supplied 40 percent of Texas’ energy demand for 17 hours in a row, a new record. At its zenith, wind made up 45 percent of the state’s generation mix. And today, ERCOT, the main grid operator for most of Texas, announced that in 2015 wind was responsible for 11.7 percent of Texas’ electricity generation. That surpasses nuclear power to make it the third largest source.

As Scientific American explains, this is so important because, “it shows that the rest of the Texas grid can handle a whole lot of wind energy for an extended period of time without suffering instability or brownouts that some predicted.”

This offers further real-world evidence that large amounts of wind energy can be integrated onto the grid without reducing reliability; many studies now show that wind actually improves reliability.

If it seems like we’ve been blogging about these records a lot lately, it’s because we have. Output records fell throughout the fall, a trend that is likely to continue into 2016. American ingenuity continues to drive technological advancements that reduce cost and improve efficiency, adding new chapters to this American success story.

http://www.lemarin.fr/secteurs-activite ... lle-ecosse

Dans la presse Canadienne :
Ca couterait 4 milliards de $ canadiens
A new proposal by Canadian renewable energy company Beothuk Energy would see a new 1GW wind farm built 20km off the blustery Nova Scotia coast.

The electricity generated by the offshore project would be exported to the United States via the Can-Am link, a proposed undersea transmission cable which would make landfall near Boston, Massachusetts.

To facilitate construction of the $4 billion (CAD) wind farm and export of the generated energy to New England, Beothuk Energy will be working in concert with leaders in finance, construction, and offshore wind energy, including Jacob Capital Management, Siemens Offshore Wind, Talon Energy and Maderra Engineering.

Before construction can begin in early 2016, Beothuk will consult with Nova Scotia stakeholders, including First Nations communities and local fisheries. They will also hear from environmental groups, and towns and cities near the proposed sites of the wind farm and the new manufacturing facilities. Minimizing environmental and economic impact on the local community is essential to moving the project forward.
