EnBW to build 187MW solar power plant in Brandenburg to operate for 40 years

By Mark Osborne Mar 17, 2020

German energy firm, EnBW is set to build a 187MW solar power plant northeast of Berlin in Werneuchen, Brandenburg that is planned to operate for 40 years.

The company plans to install approximately 465,000 high-performance (390Wp) solar modules at four fields, covering an area of 164 hectares. The Weesow-Willmersdorf solar park will have the modules facing south on a 20-degree angled mounting structure with a height of three metres.

The solar park is expected to produce around 180 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually and is EnBW’s first renewable project without state funding. More than 40 companies have been commissioned by EnBW to work on the construction of the solar park.

Dirk Güsewell, Head of Generation Portfolio Development at EnBW said, “This solar park is our first renewable project without state funding. It also marks a milestone for photovoltaics in Germany and demonstrates that this technology has achieved market maturity.”
https://www.pv-tech.org/news/enbw-to-bu ... or-40-year

Germany’s solar panels produced a record amount of electricity this week — a silver lining of the coronavirus pandemic, which has drastically reduced air pollution, according to a report.

Photovoltaic plants churned out 32,227 megawatts on Monday, beating the previous record on March 23, as clear conditions are forecast for the rest of the week, according to Time, which cited Germany’s DWD weather service.

“There is hardly a cloud over Germany,” DWD rep Andreas Friedrich told the mag. “And a high-pressure system over Scandinavia will keep these conditions in place until at least Friday.”

But the good green news meant Germany’s coal industry took a hit.

The sunny skies meant solar energy generated as much as about 40 percent of the country’s power Monday, compared to the 22 percent produced by coal and nuclear, according to Agora Energiewende, a think tank funded by the European Climate Foundation.
https://nypost.com/2020/04/21/germany-p ... -lockdown/

Germany to tender 18.8 GW of PV by 2028
The German government is planning to tender 5.3 GW in the rooftop segment and 13.5 GW for large-scale PV projects.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 SANDRA ENKHARDT

A first draft of what the amendment to Germany’s renewable energy law, the EEG, could look like has leaked from the Federal Ministry of Economics. pv magazine Germany has obtained a copy.

The new law, which is expected to come into force on January 1, 2021, includes a tender scheme for solar and other renewables that could result in the deployment of 18.8 GW of PV power capacity from 2021 to 2028, with a minimum of 1.9 GW and a maximum of 2.8 GW being planned to be allocated per year.

Of this total capacity, 5.3 GW will be tendered in the rooftop segment, while another 13.5 GW will be assigned for large-scale PV projects. Tenders for the rooftop segment will apply to systems larger than 500 kWp, while systems up to 500 kW will be eligible for a feed in tariff.

Through these new tenders, the German federal government wants to further reduce final prices for PV technology. According to the draft, the maximum price in the tenders should drop from the current €0.0750/kWh to €0.0590 for ground-mounted systems. For roof systems, a maximum value of €0.090/kWh is envisaged.

Popular content
Furthermore, the German government seems to be favorable to increasing the size limit for solar projects from 10 MW currently to 20 MW. The EEG draft also shows that there will be separate tenders for big rooftop projects in the future. So far, these projects had to compete with ground-mounted solar plants in tenders for PV plants ranging in size from 750 kW to 10 MW, and usually had little chance.

Moreover, the draft also defines a framework for PV projects that will see their 20-year FIT contract expire. The operators of these systems will be entitled to receive a special tariff in the future, as the government recognizes that direct sale to the spot market is still unprofitable. However, it is also stated that the federal government wants to promote the expansion of renewable energy sources “as far as possible, market-driven”.

Other core elements of the EEG draft include anchoring the goal of making Germany gas neutral by 2050. In addition, implementation of the Climate Protection Program 2030 will begin when the new law comes into force. The program will include the 65 percent renewable energy target in German electricity consumption. For this purpose, expansion paths are defined for the individual technologies in order to achieve the goal. For photovoltaics, the aim is to increase installed capacity from 52 GW currently to 100 GW. The target for onshore wind power is 71 GW and 20 GW for offshore wind power.

L'Allemagne atteint 52 GW de capacité de solaire PV à fin juillet :
Germany deployed 447 MW in July
According to the latest figures from the Federal Network Agency, the country’s cumulative installed PV power has now reached 51.98 GW.

AUGUST 31, 2020 PETRA HANNEN

Germany deployed around 447 MW of new PV capacity in June, according to new figures released this week by the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). May and June saw newly installed PV power reach 446 MW and 437 MW, respectively. In July 2019, new additions totaled 292 MW.

In the first seven months of 2020, developers connected 2.80 GW of solar to the grid compared to 2.38 GW in the same period a year earlier. The country’s cumulative solar capacity topped 51.98 GW at the end of July.

Almost 355 of the 447 MW deployed so far this year are attributable to PV projects that were implemented outside of the tender scheme for solar plants exceeding 750 kW in size. The ground-mounted systems with an output of up to 750 kW, which can be built outside the tender scheme, made up a total of 32.7 MW of the total new capacity for July.

In September, feed-in tariffs and market premiums will again fall 1.4%. Depending on type and size of system, FITs range between €0.0669 and €0.0877/kWh. In the direct marketing system category – mandatory for arrays with a generation capacity above 100 kW – the payment is €0.0603/kWh.

Photovoltaic roof for highways[/b]
Researchers from Germany and Austria are testing how photovoltaic roofs may be deployed along highways. The first pilot project is planned to be implemented starting from the autumn.

MAY 26, 2021 RALPH DIERMANN

Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, and the Austrian Institute of Technology, have developed a PV system solution for motorways.

The demonstrator consists of a PV system with a 10x17m roof area that has to be installed on a steel structure about 5.5m above the road. Construction on the pilot project is expected to begin next autumn and its operations will be then monitored for about a year. Based on the experience gained, further pilot applications may be implemented.

The project is part of the joint road construction research carried out by Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “With the research project, we want to develop the potential of the highways for the generation of renewable energies,” explained Steffen Bilger, German state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport. He emphasized that the roofing of a motorway is a particular technical challenge because of the fast-moving traffic underneath. “But the vision of using an area that has already been sealed off, for the generation of the energy that is needed underneath by electric vehicles, has to be pursued,” said Bilger.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport pointed out that building PV systems over roads is significantly more expensive than rooftop PV or ground-mounted solar plants. In the event of an accident on the road underneath, the supporting structure must be protected against a possible vehicle impact so that it does not collapse. To make matters worse, from a length of 80 meters, such supporting structures would have to be classified as similar to tunnels and the structure would then have to meet even higher safety requirements.

Although the modular construction of the demonstrator has some cost advantages, widespread use of solar roofs over motorways is not to be expected in the medium term, according to the ministry. In comparison, there is still a large potential for areas on which renewable energy can be generated less expensively. But for special, locally limited areas of application, the experts see possible uses for a solar roof over motorways.

Bonjour Energy_isere.
