BEIJING, June 10 (Reuters) - China's state oil firm CNPC has signed a framework agreement to buy 10 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year from Uzbekistan's national oil company Uzbekneftegaz, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday, citing a statement from the Chinese firm.
The two firms will first work to connect the Uzbek gas transmission system to the China-Uzbekistan pipeline, it said.
The pipeline is part of a 1,833-kilometer China-Central Asia gas pipeline that opened in December 2009, linking gas fields in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan to Xinjiang in northwest China.

Shanghai. June 9. INTERFAX-CHINA - Annual domestic natural gas consumption will hit 300 billion cubic meters by 2020, state media reported a top executive with PetroChina Co. Ltd., the listed arm of China's largest oil and gas producer China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), as saying on June 9.
Zhou Jiping, PetroChina's general manager, said that natural gas consumption will account for 10 percent of total domestic primary energy consumption by 2020, up from 3.9 percent in 2010, according to a Xinhua News Agency report.
PetroChina has discovered new proven gas reserves in excess of 400 billion cubic meters over the past three years, Zhou said.
The company produced 68.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2009, accounting for over 80 percent of total domestic production.
In the first four months of 2010, China produced 31.89 billion cubic meters of natural gas, up 13.1 percent year-on-year and imported 4.51 billion cubic meters of natural gas during the same period, up 206.1 percent year-on-year.
