Tehran, Baghdad to ink major gas deal in month

October 22, 2011

Iran and Iraq will sign a deal by the next 30 days to finalize the export of Iranian gas to its neighbor, the National Iranian Gas Company’s (NIGC) managing director Javad Oji announced in Tehran on Saturday.

Some 170 kilometers of the pipeline, which will transfer gas from Iran to Iraq, will be built in Iran and it will extend 190 kilometers into Iraq, the NIGC head stated.

The official added that the deal is aimed to supply four power plants in Iraq with natural gas. Meanwhile, negotiations for finalizing the construction of the planned Iran-Iraq-Syria gas pipeline, dubbed the Islamic Pipeline will go on, he added.

According to the deal, some 20 million cubic meters of natural gas would be exported to Iraq per day in the first phase, he said, adding that the exports will start in 2013.

Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi had previously announced that his country is planning to import about 800,000 cubic meters of natural gas a day from Iran to supply fuel for the power plants through a 300-million-dollar investment.

Iran and Iraq inked in July a deal to export 1.5 million liters of diesel per day to Iraq for a one-year period.

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company’s managing director, Alireza Zeighami, and Iraqi Deputy Electricity Minister, Ra’ad Alharis, inked the deal in Baghdad.

Iran says it has discovered a gas field reserve with a potential 1.4 trillion cubic meters of natural gas in the Caspian Sea.

The field, located 2,300 feet deep (700 meters), lies within Iran's maritime borders, Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said on the Ministry of Petroleum's news site.

Iran has 11 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves in the Caspian Sea, excluding this latest discovery, the minister said.

Iran is the second-largest oil producing member-nation of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. Oil exports account 80 per cent of its public revenues.

According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy released in June, Iran has 29.61 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves. It ranks third in the world on oil reserves and second on gas reserves.

Iran's government is struggling to attract foreign investment to help develop its gas and oil resources amid international economic sanctions. The U.S., United Nations and European Union have imposed sanctions to Iran from developing technology for nuclear weapons. The government says it want nuclear power for civilian purposes.

Iran to Export Natural Gas to Iraq

May 05, 2012 Farsnews

Managing Director of Iran's Gas Engineering and Development Company Ali Reza Qaribi said that upon completion of the 220-km gas pipeline, it will carry a daily amount of 25 million cubic meters of Iranian natural gas to Iraq.

"The 48-inch gas pipeline to Iraq, which will run for 220 kilometers, will be a branch of Iran's sixth national gas pipeline," he said Friday.

Qaribi went on to say that building the pipeline will begin as soon as a new gas deal is signed between Iran and Iraq.

"The 450-million-dollar project will be built by Iranian contractors," he noted.

Iran has 137.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and 29.61 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves, ranking second in the world in both oil and gas reserves.

According to the Iranian officials, Iran produces 600 million cubic meters of gas per day, 37 million cubic meters of which are exported.

Iran discovers 26 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in Persian Gulf

May 12, 2012

TEHRAN – The latest exploration operations at the Kish gas field, which is located in the Persian Gulf, show that it contains at least 66 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, which is a rise of 26 trillion cubic feet over previous estimates, according to an official of the National Iranian Oil Company.

And explorations are underway in the region to find new natural gas deposits, NIOC Exploration Department Director Mahmoud Mohaddess told the Mehr News Agency on Friday.

Earlier, National Drilling Company of Iran Deputy Director Mehran Makvandi said that 60,000 meters of drilling will be carried out at the Kish gas field, the Shana News Agency reported.

Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi recently said that the National Iranian Oil Company and its subsidiaries should finish drilling wells and start gas production as soon as possible.

He added that development and exploitation of the Kish gas field can boost the national economy.

Implementation of the development plan for the Kish gas field started in 2007. In addition to its 66 trillion cubic feet of in-situ gas, the field also contains about 514 million barrels of condensates.

Iran has the second largest proven gas reserves in the world after Russia.

Iran’s natural gas production capacity stands at around 554 million cubic meters per day, National Iranian Gas Company spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh said on February 5.

Boujarzadeh told the Pana News Agency that taking the gas imported from Turkmenistan into account, about 600 million cubic meters of natural gas is supplied across the country every day.

Iran exported over 7.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas during the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 19, up 10.5 percent compared to the year before.

l' Iran menace les Chinois de mettre fin à un contrat de développement de 5 milliards de dollars du gaz dans le champs de South Pars car les dlais dérappent.
Iran warns of cancelling $5 bn China gas deal:

(AFP) – 1 day ago

TEHRAN — Iran has warned China it could cancel a much-delayed $5-billion offshore gas exploration contract in the Gulf, a news agency said on Monday.

"There is a possibility of cancelling the contract" signed in 2009 to develop the South Pars gas field -- which holds around eight percent of the world's gas reserves -- Mehr news quoted oil ministry spokesman Alireza Nikzad as saying.

China has for years aimed to strengthen its economic relationship with sanctions-hit Iran, by filling the investment void left by departing Western companies.

But Iran has accused China of failing to fulfil its commitment and delaying its contractual obligations.

South Pars, a huge offshore natural gas field shared between Iran and Qatar, holds around 14 trillion cubic metres of gas, and Iran plans to use the "phase 11" project to fill its first-ever liquefied natural gas plant.

Mehr named China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the Asian giant's largest oil and gas producer and supplier, as the company contracted for the project.

Iran suspended a $16-billion contract with China last year for the North Pars gas field, saying the decision to let the Chinese develop North Pars rested on their effectiveness in developing South Pars.

Nikzad said that should the South Pars contract be cancelled, the development of the offshore gas field would be handed over to Iranian contractors.

"The Chinese side has stated it is not inclined to be part of the project's development," citing the "high risk" involved in offshore exploration, Nikzad added.

He said that a deal for another gas field would instead be discussed "in the near future," without giving any details.

Major Western companies that had been operating in South Pars, among them France's Total and Anglo-Dutch giant Shell, withdrew from Iran between 2007 and 2010 after international sanctions were imposed over Tehran's controversial nuclear programme.

Iran, which has the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia, claims it is able to develop South Pars on its own by giving many of the projects to companies affiliated to its elite Revolutionary Guards.

Selon la presse Iranienne, le Gaz d' Iran va arriver en Irak dés cet été par le Gazoduc actuellement en construction.
Iran gas to reach Iraq next summer: Oil Ministry official

Iran Oil Ministry spokesman says the country will start exporting natural gas to Baghdad by next summer via an under-construction pipeline between the two countries.

Alireza Nikzad-Rahbar said on Wednesday that the "friendship" pipeline project between Iran, Iraq and Syria, is the most important project currently pursued by the ministry.

The official said if the project is carried out according to schedule, the gas pipeline between Iran and Iraq will be completed next summer, adding that tripartite talks are underway to extend the pipeline to Syria.

He noted that the pipeline would be designed in such a way that it would be able to deliver gas to other Muslim countries like Jordan and Lebanon in the future.

The 56-inch pipeline will start from Assaluyeh, near South Pars Gas Field in southern Iran, and will continue into the neighboring Iraq to feed three Iraqi power plants running on gas.

The South Pars Gas Field, which is shared with Qatar, holds about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the total world reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.

Iran, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is making efforts to up its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in South Pars Gas Field.

Des nouvelles de South Pars.

La phase 12 du projet va entrer en service pour la moitié de sa capacité finale (qui sera atteinte en Nov 2013)
Biggest South Pars phase to start yielding gas in late September: Official

Executive Director of Petropars Projects, Seyyed Hadi Mirbagheri, said on Thursday that the flare of the offshore platform of South Pars Phase 12 was lit in early August following the transmission of sweetened natural gas from onshore to offshore facilities.

He added that Petropars technicians together with experts from the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company managed to light the flare of the offshore platform of South Pars Phase 12 after they launched the first 32-inch pipeline of the phase, and transmit sweetened gas to the site.

Mirbagheri went on to say that the offshore platform of Phase 12 will yield 500 million cubic feet of natural gas per day in September, and will transfer the extracted gas to onshore facilities.

He stated that the offshore platform of South Pars Phase 12 will reach its maximum capacity in November, when it will yield 1,000 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas per day which will be transmitted to onshore gas treatment facilities.

On July 31, Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said all phases of the giant South Pars gas field will come on stream by 2015, when all remaining projects will be commissioned.

He added that 17 phases of the field are currently being developed, and Iran will extract as much natural gas as neighboring Qatar from the joint reservoir once the development of these phases is complete.

The oil minister stated that 80 percent of phases 17 and 18 of the South Pars gas field has been developed and they will be operational by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2014).

The South Pars gas field, divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.

Iran Completes Gas Pipeline to Iraq

August 23, 2014 TEHRAN (Tasnim)

Iran has finished the construction of a pipeline to export natural gas to neighboring Iraq to feed the country’s power plants, Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) announced.
printPrint

“After the end of cleaning and calibration pigging, 97 kilometers of (Iran’s side) of the pipeline will come on stream,” Alireza Gharibi, IGEDC managing director, said on Friday.
He added that the 97-kilometer pipeline, 48 inches in diameter, will be linked to the Iran’s Gas Trunkline (IGAT) to deliver natural gas from Iran to Iraq.

Pre-startup tests have already been launched on the pipeline.

Back in May, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for International and Commercial Affairs Ali Majedi announced that under a finalized deal, Iran’s gas exports to Iraq will start by March 2015.

Under the agreement, the gas delivery to Iraq will start with four to seven mcm per day during the first three years of gas exports and will reach some 15 mcm during the two years after the mentioned period and finally will hit some 25 mcm per day.

The gas pipeline to Iraq stretches from the village of Charmaleh in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah, into the town of Naft Shahr on the border with Iraq.
The pipeline, which is estimated to earn Iran $3.7 billion a year in revenues, will be fed by the massive offshore South Pars gas field in southern Iran.

The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
It is one of the country's main energy resources. This gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.
