Les pourpalers avaient commencé en Octobre 2009.
Tehran, Ankara sign €1b gas pipeline deal

Tehran Times Economic Desk

ANKARA -- Tehran and Ankara inked a 1 billion euro ($1.29 billion) contract here on Thursday to build a pipeline that will transfer Iran’s natural gas to Turkey.

The contract was signed on the sidelines of Iranian Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi’s meeting with Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz, ILNA News Agency reported.

National Iranian Gas Company’s Managing Director Javad Owji and Turkey's BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation Managing Director Fazil Senel signed the contract.

Based on the agreement, the Turkish side will secure 77 percent of the required fund for completing the 660- kilometer pipeline.

It is the 4th section of Iran’s sixth cross-country pipeline which extends from Assalouyeh, southwest of the country, to Bazargan border in the northwest.

In October 2009, during Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Tehran, the two countries signed memorandums of understanding on oil and gas cooperation and transferring Iran’s gas to European markets through Turkey.

Iran currently exports 25 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey per day and the figure could be increased to 30 million cubic meters a day. Iran has the world’s second largest gas reserves and third largest oil reserves.

Iran Completes Main Part of Peace Pipeline

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran on Monday inaugurated a major section of a multi-billion-dollar pipeline which is due to transfer its rich gas reserves to Pakistan.

Officials said that this section of the pipeline transfers natural gas from Assalouyeh Energy Zone in the south to the southeastern city of Iranshahr, near the Pakistani border.

The project was inaugurated by First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi in a special ceremony also attended by the country's Oil Minister Masoud Mir-Kazzemi.

The project had taken five years with a cost of $1.3 bln.

The 902-kilometer pipeline which will supply gas to the eastern regions is also aimed at exporting gas to Pakistan and India within a project named 'The Peace Pipeline'.

In March, Tehran and Islamabad signed a final agreement to launch implementation of the project for exporting Iran's rich gas reserves to the energy-hungry south-Asian nation.

The 2700-kilometer long pipeline was to supply gas for Pakistan and India which are suffering a lack of energy sources, but India later evaded talks. Last year Iran and Pakistan declared they would finalize the agreement bilaterally if India continued to be absent in meetings.

According to the project proposal, the pipeline will begin from Iran's Assalouyeh Energy Zone in the south and stretch over 1,100 km through Iran. In Pakistan, it will pass through Baluchistan and Sindh but officials now say the route may be changed if China agrees to the project.

The gas will be supplied from the South Pars field. The initial capacity of the pipeline will be 22 billion cubic meters of natural gas per annum, which is expected to be later raised to 55 billion cubic meters. It is expected to cost $7.4 billion.

TEHRAN -- Iran’s natural gas flow to Turkey would be resumed within the next seven days after it was halted because of an explosion on August 25, an official with the National Iranian Gas Company said here on Monday.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Valiollah Dini as saying that, “Based on an announcement by the (Turkish pipeline operator) Botas, gas exports to Turkey would be resumed within the next seven days.”

The overnight blast, allegedly carried out by the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), forced Turkish authorities to shut down the conduit in the country’s eastern city of Agri, which borders Iran.

The repair work is ongoing on the Iran-Turkey gas pipeline, Dini added.

Last month, a similar blast occurred in another section of the pipeline close to the eastern Turkish town of Dogubayazit, near Iran’s border. When the explosion on July 21 halted gas flows, it took 10 days to fix the pipeline.

Iran is Turkey’s second largest supplier of natural gas after Russia, exporting 10 billion cubic meters of gas each year. Turkey uses gas to fire half of its power plants.

Iran’s gas exports to Turkey in 2009 amounted to roughly $7 billion, Press TV reported.

According to the contract terms of Iran LNG project, established with a 10 percent share of Venezuelan National Oil Company, Iran will start exporting LNG to Argentina and Cuba.

Ali Kheirandish, the managing director of Iran's LNG Company noted that South America will be one of the target markets for exporting Iran's natural gas and it will start exporting LNG to Argentina and Cuba.

Venezuela has a long term contract with Argentina and Cuba and has to supply these countries' required gas by 2013, he said. "With the agreements reached between Iran and Venezuela, the gas provided to Argentina and Cuba will be partly provided by Iran's LNG plant," he added.

Kheirandish noted that 40 percent of the construction for Iran's LNG plant has been completed and said: "50 percent of the project will be completed by the end of Iranian calendar year (March 2011) according to the timetable."

According to the Letter of Intent signed between Iran and Venezuela, an Iranian LNG plant will be established in Venezuela with an annual production capacity of 5.4 million metric tones of natural gas. Iran will also help Venezuela to build a LNG plant in Delta Caribe area, according to the LOI signed by the two countries' oil ministers.

Iran discovers new gas field

Tehran Times Economic Desk

A new gas field has been discovered in Iran with considerable deposits of natural gas and gas condensates.

Details of the discovery will soon be announced, the Mehr News Agency reported.

Oil Minister Massoud Mirkazemi said on January 16 another onshore gas field in the southern part of Iran had been newly discovered which could be worth $50 billion.

The new field, called Khayyam, has 260 billion cubic meters gas in place, Mirkazemi said, adding 210 billion cubic meters of the reserve is recoverable.

""The field also holds some 220 million barrels of gas condensates, 100 million barrels of it is recoverable,"" Mirkazemi said.

The oil minister said in October that a new oilfield had been discovered in southern Iran, increasing the country's proven oil reserves to 150.31 billion barrels.

He also announced the discovery of a new gas field -- named Sefid (white) -- in Iran's southern province of Hormozgan, saying that the field contains “70 billion cubic meters of gas, 72 percent of which can be exploited.”

“Over the course of the past six months, the country's oil and gas reserves have been reassessed. According to the latest studies, the country's oil reserves have reached 150.31 billion barrels,” the SHANA news agency quoted Mirkazemi as saying on November 30, 2010.

Iran boasts the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia. Iran is also the world's third-largest oil producer

Iran to Sell $13B-Bonds to Finance South Pars Phases

Iran plans to sell bonds worth $13 billion to finance the development of phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the South Pars gas field during the next Iranian year (starting March 21, 2011), Fars News Agency reported quoting the Deputy Head of South Pars phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18, Mohammad Reza Zahiri as saying.

Earlier Iranian Oil Minister Seyed Massoud Mir Kazzemi said that launching all the South Pars gas field phases requires $60 billion investment in the upstream sector of the field.

When all phases of the South Pars field become operational, the annual revenue of the field will soar to $100 billion, raising Iran's gas output to 1.1 billion cubic meters per day, Mir Kazzemi said.

Managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Ahmad Qalebani reported that issuance permits by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) on offering oil industry foreign exchange denominated bonds by domestic branches of Iranian banks for the first time, Shana reported.

Qalebani said that last week for the first time the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) permitted Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) to issue foreign exchange denominated bonds through domestic branches of Iranian banks.

Under the CBI licenses, foreign exchange bonds would be offered by Bank Saderat, Bank Tejarat and Bank Sepah as of March 12, 2011 , Qalebani added.

Iran gas output to hit 700m cu m in 2012

Tehran: Mon, 4 Apr 2011

Iran says its gas production output will rise to 700 million cubic meters per day by March 2012, an official was quoted on Monday as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Iran has the second-biggest gas reserves in the world after Russia, but sanctions over its nuclear ambitions and other factors have slowed its development as a major exporter. It is unable to access the technology it needs to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

'By the inauguration of South Pars new phases, the production capacity of the country will rise by 100 million cubic meters in the current (Iranian) year, which will end in March 2012,' Deputy Oil Minister Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr told the agency.

Iran's gas production capacity is currently about 600 million cubic metres per day.

South Pars is on the Iranian side of the world's largest known gas reservoir not associated with oil production.

Qatar holds the southern section of the field, where it is known as the North Field. Qatar has developed its side of the field to become the world's largest exporter of LNG. – Reuters

Natural gas from Iran exported to Europe

Bloomberg reported that Iran reached USD 10 billion agreement with Iraq and Syria to allow the transit of natural gas from Iran's South Pars field to Europe via Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea.

Mr Javad Owji MD of National Iranian Gas Company said that Iranian, Iraqi and Syrian oil ministers signed the agreement. The gas is to pass through a 5,000-kilometre pipeline to Greece and elsewhere in Europe. Construction will be completed in 3 to 5 years.

According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy June 2011, Iran had 29.6 trillion cubic metres in proved gas reserves the world's second biggest after Russia. While the government is seeking to attract foreign investment to develop the gas, the US, European Union and United Nations have imposed sanctions against the country over its nuclear energy program.

Iran Discovers Another Gas Field Worth $133B

TEHRAN (Dow Jones Newswires), Aug. 8, 2011

Hydrocarbon-rich Iran has discovered another gas field with reserves of 495 billion cubic meters, valued at $133 billion, the oil ministry's SHANA news service quoted an oil official as saying Monday.

"The new gas field has in spot reserves of about 495 billion cubic meters (17.5 trillion cubic feet) valued at $133 billion and is located east of Assalouyeh," National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) managing director Ahmad Qalebani said.

Assalouyeh, in the southern province of Bushehr, is the base for developing Iran's offshore South Pars field which Tehran shares with Qatar.

It holds an estimated 14 trillion cubic meters of gas (500 trillion cubic feet) or about eight percent of the world's total.

The Islamic republic, which has divided South Pars into 28 phases, has proven gas reserves of 33 trillion cubic meters second largest in the world after Russia.

Iran consumes almost all of the 600 million cubic meters per day of gas it produces, but hopes to double production and export 250 million cubic meters a day to its neighbors and Europe from 2015 by developing the giant South Pars field.

Tehran also announced Monday an increase of 17 million cubic meters in phase 10 of South Pars, SHANA reported.

"Gas production in phase 10 of South Pars has increased by 17 million cubic meters," said Moussa Souri, director of Pars Oil and Gas.

But the South Pars development has been delayed amid a lack of investment in a country faced with severe gas needs of its own and because of difficulties in procuring the required technology.

Iran's vital energy sector is one of the key areas targeted by world powers in sanctions imposed against Tehran for pursuing its controversial nuclear program.

Most Western and European energy firms have withdrawn or put on hold their investments in the country's energy sector.

Iran is the second largest producer within Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries at 3.7 million barrels per day, and has oil reserves of around 155 billion barrels.
