Sembcorp Delivers Massive Vito Platform To Shell

Sembcorp Marine has completed the Vito Regional Production Facility for Shell’s deepwater project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Singapore-based offshore builder Sembcorp Marine has completed the Vito Regional Production Facility (Vito RPF) for Shell’s deepwater project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Sembcorp Marine said that the Vito RPF was the company’s first floating production unit. The integration of Vito’s topside structure with its hull was executed by a pair of cranes with a 30,000-ton combined lifting capacity in the Tuas Boulevard Yard.

The yard’s ability to perform this type of mega-block lifting enabled the Vito topsides and living quarters to be fabricated and assembled at ground level to minimize work-at-height risks, before integration with the four-column FPU hull in a single lift. The integration of mega-topsides with a hull for the Vito unit was completed in October 2021.

The Vito FPU was successfully delivered to Shell on December 27, 2021, and the platform departed Tuas Boulevard Yard for Singapore’s anchorage to prepare for loadout and its sailaway to the Gulf of Mexico in the United States.

“The successful construction and delivery of Vito FPU is a key milestone in our newbuilding track record and a testament to Sembcorp Marine’s proven expertise and differentiated capabilities in the construction of turnkey projects for the offshore, marine, and energy industries,” Wong Weng Sun, Sembcorp Marine President and CEO, said.

“We would like to thank Shell for their strong teamwork and steadfast support in overcoming the challenges and constraints brought on by COVID-19. We look forward to continuing this partnership with Shell for the Whale Host Facility (WHF),” he added.

As for Vito, it is a Shell-operated deepwater development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico sanctioned back in April 2018. It lays in four blocks in the Mississippi Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico and will be developed with eight subsea wells with deep (18,000 feet) in-well gas lift. Sembcorp Marine was selected to build and integrate the hull, topsides, and living quarters of the Vito semi-submersible unit in May 2018.

Sembcorp Marine is currently undertaking the construction of a second FPU project for Shell, involving the fabrication and integration of the FPU topsides, living quarters and hull, for the Whale development located in the United States Gulf of Mexico.

U.S. drillers add oil and gas rigs for fourth week in five -Baker Hughes

By Scott Disavino January 7, 2022

U.S. energy firms kicked off the new year by continuing to add oil and natural gas rigs this week after increasing the rig count in 2021 after two years of declines.

The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, rose two to 588 in the week to Jan. 7, its highest since April 2020, energy services firm Baker Hughes Co said in its closely followed report on Friday. , ,

Even though the rig count has been rising for a record 17 months in a row, analysts noted production was still expected to ease in 2021 as some energy firms continue to focus more on returning money to investors rather than boosting output.

The total rig count was up 228 rigs, or 63%, over this time last year.

U.S. Rig Count Jumps As Crude Rally Continues

By Julianne Geiger - Jan 14, 2022

he number of active drilling rigs in the United States rose by 13 this week, bringing the total rig count at 601, as oil prices keep to bull territory even as the fresh wave of Covid-19 cases brought by the new variant threatens to diminish demand.

Last week's count compared with an unchanged rig count of 588 during the previous week.

Baker Hughes reported the total active rig figure was 228 rigs higher than the rig count this time in 2021.

Oil-directed rigs were up by 11 to 492, while gas-directed rigs were up by 2 to 109.

Oil production in the U.S. last week—the last week of 2021—fell 100,000 bpd back to 11.7 million bpd, according to the Energy Information Administration. This is up from 11 million bpd at the beginning of 2021. Despite last week's setback, U.S. production remains on an upward trend.

U.S. Rig Count Rises For 15th Straight Week As WTI Nears $93

By Julianne Geiger - Feb 04, 2022

The number of active drilling rigs in the United States rose by 3 this week—the 15th straight weekly increase to the number of oil and gas rigs in the United States. The total rig count now sits at 613 as the price of a WTI barrel continues to climb to levels not seen since 2014—an attraction to drillers that could find too hard to pass up despite the push to maintain capital discipline and return money to shareholders.

Baker Hughes reported this week that the total active rig figure—oil, gas, and miscellaneous—is 221 rigs higher than the rig count this time in 2021.

Oil-directed rigs rose 2 to 497, while gas-directed rigs were up by 1 to 116.

While the U.S. is seeing steady gains in the number of drilling rigs, and while the longer-term trend of U.S. oil production is upward, the recent short-term trend for oil production has taken a downward slant. Oil production in the U.S. last week fell again, to 11.5 million bpd for week ending January 28, according to the Energy Information Administration. This is the lowest production level since mid-November.

U.S. Oil Output Could Hit Record In 2023: EIA

By Irina Slav - Feb 09, 2022,

Crude oil production in the United States could reach 12.6 million barrels daily next year, which would be a record high on an annual-average basis, the Energy Information Administration said in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook.

Oil production was already growing strongly, reaching 11.8 million bpd in November—the latest month the EIA has hard data for. It is still growing, too, and is expected to hit 12 million bpd this year.

Growth in U.S. production as well as growth in OPEC+ production prompted the EIA to revise its price projections for Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate for this year.

The authority now expects Brent crude to fall to some $75 per barrel by the end of the year, with the average for the full year at $82.87 per barrel. For West Texas Intermediate, the authority expects an average 2022 price of $79.35 per barrel.

“We expect Brent prices will average $90/b in February as continuing draws in global oil inventories in our forecast keep crude oil prices near current levels in the coming months,” the EIA said.

“However, we expect downward price pressures will emerge in the middle of the year as growth in oil production from OPEC+, the United States, and other non-OPEC countries outpaces slowing growth in global oil consumption.”

U.S. drillers indeed appear to be finally succumbing to the charm of higher oil prices and are boosting their drilling activities. In fact, these activities have at least one CEO of an oil major worried.

ConocoPhillips’ Ryan Lance earlier this month said he was concerned about the rate of growth in U.S. shale oil production. During a conference call, Lance said Conoco forecast an increase of 900,000 bpd in U.S. oil production this year, adding that “If you’re not worried about it you should be,” as quoted by Bloomberg.

U.S. Rig Count See Massive Climb On Higher Oil Prices

By Julianne Geiger - Feb 11, 2022T

The number of active drilling rigs in the United States rose by 22 this week—the 16th straight weekly increase to the number of oil and gas rigs in the United States, and the largest single-week rise since February 2018.

The total rig count now sits at 635 as the price of a WTI barrel slipped this week from its multi-year highs.

Baker Hughes reported this week that the total active rig figure—oil, gas, and miscellaneous—is 238 rigs higher than the rig count this time in 2021.

Oil-directed rigs rose 19 to 516, while gas-directed rigs were up by 2 to 118. Miscellaneous rigs were also up 1.

U.S. weekly production of crude oil this week increased, breaking its recent downward trend. Crude production for the week ending February 4 rose 100,000 bpd to 11.6 million bpd, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The rig count in the Permian Basin rose by 7 this week, bringing the total rig count in the prolific Permian basin to 301. The nation's second most prolific basin, the Eagle Ford, saw its count rise by 4 to 54.
