U.S. Crude Production Continues To Trail Rising Oil Rig Count

By Julianne Geiger - Nov 05, 2021, oilprice

The number of oil and gas rigs in the United States rose by 6 this week, according to Baker Hughes.

The total rig count is now at 550, up 250 from this time last year, but still under the 790 active rigs as of March 2020.

The U.S. oil rig count rose this week to 450—a 6-rig increase since last week, and a 224 rig increase since this time last year.

The number of gas rigs stayed the same, as did miscellaneous rigs.

The EIA's estimate for oil production in the United States for the week ending October 29 rose 200,000 bpd, to 11.5 million bpd—matching this year's record set on August 28.

U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm on Friday stated on Bloomberg that it was "curious" as to why oil and gas companies weren't incentivized to produce more at $80 per barrel. Despite the modest production increases over the last month as the United States oil and gas sector recovers from the effects of Hurricane Ida, oil production is still well below the 13.1 million bpd record set last year before the pandemic took hold in the United States.

Giant Argos Platform Arrives To GOM Offshore Home (VIDEO)

BP's massive Argos platform

BP’s massive Argos platform has arrived at its final location in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico following a journey from the Ingleside yard in Texas.

BP shared the video of the Argos, the company’s fifth operated platform in the Gulf of Mexico, leaving Texas and arriving safely to its offshore home. The oil major said in the video that the tow operation of the platform started in September 2021.

This has been a long-awaited moment for the 60,000-ton Argos platform. Its construction began back in March 2018.

The floating production unit, built for the $9 billion Mad Dog 2 project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico by Samsung Heavy, sailed away from South Korea to Texas in February 2021.

More than 15 million hours of work have gone into fabricating the Argos FPU at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard and the huge size of it is just emphasized by the fact that the deck’s length and width are identical to one of a football field.

Its 16,000-mile journey from South Korea to Texas the massive Argos platform spent on board the Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Boka Vanguard. In Ingleside, the Argos platform had to undergo final preparations and regulatory inspections before starting its journey offshore.

Now, the Argos FPU is located at its offshore home in the Gulf of Mexico where it awaits installation some six miles from the original Mad Dog spar located around 190 miles south of New Orleans. Argos will operate in 4,500 feet of water.

According to BP’s stats, the facility will produce up to 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day at its peak via a subsea production system from 14 production wells. It will export oil and gas through already existing pipeline infrastructure.

BP previously hoped to start production from the Argos in late 2021. Currently, the oil major believes it will start production in the second quarter of 2022.

U.S. oil production set to increase further in 2022, energy expert Dan Yergin says

December 30, 2021

U.S. oil production is back and set to increase in 2022 after more than a year of OPEC and its allies “running the show,” according to Daniel Yergin, vice chairman of IHS Markit.

Output could rise by as much as 900,000 barrels per day, he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Wednesday.

U.S. oil firms slashed production in 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic destroyed demand and supply has not yet recovered to pre-Covid levels. In 2019, the U.S. produced 12.29 million barrels of crude oil per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

That figure was 11.28 million in 2020 and is estimated to be 11.18 million in 2021 and 11.85 million in 2022.

“The U.S. is back,” Yergin said. “For the last year, year and a half, it’s been OPEC+ running the show, but U.S. production is coming back already, and it’s going to come back more in 2022.”

He added that he has been on two calls where the U.S. energy secretary asked companies to increase production.

“That, of course, is because the Biden administration is so deeply concerned or alarmed about inflation, and about its political impacts,” he said.

Yergin also predicted oil prices will stay in the $65 to $85 per barrel range and that $100 oil is unlikely “unless some big geopolitical turmoil happens.”

Rig Count Remains Unchanged During Last Week Of 2021

By Julianne Geiger - Dec 31, 2021

The number of active drilling rigs in the United States remained unchanged this week, keeping the total rig count at 586, as oil prices remain relatively strong despite the fresh wave of Covid-19 cases brought by the new variant of the coronavirus.

Last week’s count compared with a rig count rise of 7 for the previous week, which brought the total to 586.

Baker Hughes reported the total active rig figure was 235 rigs higher than the rig count this time last year when the oil industry was just beginning to recover from the worst blows of the pandemic. Yet it was still far from the rig count numbers from before the pandemic.

Oil production in the U.S. last week stood at 11.8 million bpd, according to the Energy Information Administration. That was up from 11.6 million bpd for the previous week and the highest level since May 2020.

While U.S. production remains on an upward trend, oil drillers remain cautious in their production growth plans and more focused on returning cash to investors.

https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafH ... RFPUS2&f=M

A suivre.
