Offshore Guyana Twice as Nice for Tullow

by Matthew V. Veazey|Rigzone Staff|Monday, September 16,

Tullow Oil plc reported Monday that it has discovered oil at the Joe-1 exploration well in the Orinduik license offshore Guyana.

According to Tullow, Joe-1 opens up a new Upper Tertiary oil plan in the Guyana basin. It also marks the company’s second Orinduik discovery, following the Jethro-1 find that it reported last month.

“I am very pleased that we have made back-to-back discoveries in Guyana and successfully opened a new, shallower play in the Upper Tertiary age of the Guyana basin with our second well,” Angus McCoss, Tullow’s exploration director, said in a written statement emailed to Rigzone.

Drilled by the Stena Forth drillship, Joe-1 reached a total depth of 7,136 feet (2,175 meters) in 2,559 feet (780 meters) of water, Tullow stated. The company, whose Tullow Guyana B.V. subsidiary operates the Orinduik block and owns a 60-percent stake in the license, also noted that Joe-1 encountered 46 feet (14 meters) of net oil pay and de-risks the petroleum system in the western Orinduik.

Total E&P Guyana B.V. holds a 25-percent interest in Orinduik, with Eco (Atlantic) Guyana Inc. owning the remaining 15 percent. After it concludes operations in Guyana, Stena Forth will set sail for Ghana, Tullow noted.

Tullow stated the Orinduik partners will evaluate data from Joe-1 alongside data from Jethro-1, also awaiting the outcome of the Carapa well to tailor the exploration and development program. The company pointed out the Rowan EXL II jack-up rig is slated to spud the non-operated Carapa-1 well on the Kanuku license late this month.

“The Joe-1 discovery and its surrounding prospects represent another area of significant potential in the Orinduik Block and we are greatly looking forward to the next phase of the program as we continue to unlock the multi-billion barrel potential of this acreage,” concluded McCoss.

Nouveau ticket gagnant pour EXXON
Majors Continue To Strike More Oil Offshore Guyana

By Tsvetana Paraskova - Sep 17, 2019

ExxonMobil has made another oil discovery offshore Guyana, adding to a previously estimated recoverable resource of more than 6 billion oil-equivalent barrels on the Stabroek Block, just a few months before it begins oil production from the Liza Phase 1 development.

Exxon encountered a high-quality oil-bearing sandstone reservoir in the Tripletail-1 well in the Turbot area on the Stabroek Block, the U.S. supermajor said in a statement.

“Together with our partners, ExxonMobil is deploying industry-leading capabilities to identify projects that can be developed efficiently and in a cost-effective way,” said Mike Cousins, senior vice president of exploration and new ventures at ExxonMobil.

ExxonMobil has made more than a dozen oil discoveries offshore Guyana, which is the supermajor’s key development priority in the coming years together with significantly boosting shale production in the Permian basin.

Exxon’s discovery also comes a few months before the start up of the

Liza Phase 1 development expected by early 2020. Liza Phase 1 will produce up to 120,000 bpd via the Liza Destiny floating production storage and offloading (FPSO). Exxon has also approved the Liza Phase 2 development, which is expected to begin production of up to 220,000 bpd by the middle of 2022. A third development, Payara, could begin pumping oil as soon as 2023, subject to government approvals, Exxon said.

While Exxon has been the undisputed leader in exploration success in the newest offshore hot spot, other oil companies have also had exploration success recently.Tullow Oil announced last month an oil discovery on the Orinduik license, and said this week that it had made another oil discovery on the same license.

“I am very pleased that we have made back-to-back discoveries in Guyana and successfully opened a new, shallower play in the Upper Tertiary age of the Guyana basin with our second well,” Angus McCoss, Exploration Director at Tullow Oil, said in a statement on Monday.

“The Joe-1 discovery and its surrounding prospects represent another area of significant potential in the Orinduik Block and we are greatly looking forward to the next phase of the programme as we continue to unlock the multi-billion barrel potential of this acreage,” McCoss said.

Et bien finalement la première production de pétrole se fera dés cette fin d' année.
ExxonMobil, Hess To Start Production Off Guyana By Year’s End

30 October 2019

The first phase of oil production from the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana is now slated to start up before year end, ahead of the previously scheduled first-quarter 2020 date, partner Hess said in its third-quarter earnings release.

First oil from the 120,000-B/D Liza Destiny floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO), which arrived on the block in late August, is targeted for December. It is expected to take 3 months before the FPSO ramps up to full capacity. The development consists of four subsea drill centers and 17 wells, of which eight are production wells, six water injection wells, and three gas injection wells.

Operator ExxonMobil and its partners sanctioned Liza Phase 2 in May and will use the 220,000-B/D Liza Unity FPSO, with first oil expected by mid-2022. Pending government approvals, a third development, Payara, is expected to produce up to 220,000 B/D with startup in 2023.

The partners have made 14 discoveries on the Stabroek Block since the first in 2015 and expect those discoveries to support at least five FPSOs producing more than 750,000 B/D by 2025. The 26,8000-sq-km block has an estimated recoverable resource of more than 6 billion BOE.

ExxonMobil holds a 45% interest in the block. Hess and CNOOC own 30% and 25%, respectively.

Et la baraka continue :
Exxon Discovers Even More Oil In Guyana

By Editorial Dept - Jan 03, 2020, 1

Exxon (with Hess) has announced another (the 15th) discovery offshore Guyana in the Stabroek block, just days after they started producing first oil from the Liza field (ahead of schedule). The new discovery, Mako-1, uncovered around 164 feet of high-quality oil-bearing sandstone reservoir after drilling in 5,315 feet of water. Without this latest discovery, Stabroek already has over 6 billion boe of gross recoverable resource.

• While Exxon and Hess are tearing it up in Guyana, Tullow stocks are taking another beating on data showing only four meters of net oil pay at its Carapa-1 exploration well in the Guyana Kanuku offshore license. Repsol Exploración Guyana, S.A. is the operator of the Kanuku block with a 37.5% stake. Tullow Guyana B.V. also holds a 37.5% stake with Total E&P Guyana B.V. holding the remaining 25%. This is the second major hit for Tullow in Guyana in recent months (the first was low-quality results in the Orinduik block), and stocks are now diving because analysts view the results as indicative of low likelihood of commercial oil.

Guyana Officially Becomes Oil Exporter

By Julianne Geiger - Jan 20, 2020

The world’s newest oil frontier, Guyana, has officially shipped its very first batch of crude oil on Monday, according to TankerTrackers.com—a major oil-first for the South American country.

The first batch of oil—a million barrels of Liza sweet crude oil—is currently on a Suezmax tanker Yannis P headed for the United States, Tanker Trackers said. The Liza field is co-owned by Hess Corp (NYSE: HES), China’s CNOOC, and operator ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM)—who is the envy of all oil companies at the moment for 15 mouthwatering finds offshore Guyana.

The project has uncovered more than 6 billion barrels of recoverable oil and gas, although a more recent find earlier this month will increase that figure.

It is not yet known which of ExxonMobil’s US refineries the new crude will end up in.

All in all, ExxonMobil and its partners are expecting to produce at least 750,000 barrels per day within five years—a figure that if achieved would catapult Guyana into a serious global oil player.

Guyana On The Hunt For Oil Firm To Trade Its Oil

By Julianne Geiger - Jan 23, 2020

Guyana’s government is on the lookout for an oil company or oil trading firm to sell and market its brand new crude oil, according to the director of the Department of Energy Mark Bynoe, Reuters said on Thursday

With Guyana’s oil industry still in its infancy, it does not yet have the resources to market its own crude oil that it is entitled to from the wildly successful consortium of ExxonMobil, Hess, and CNOOC that found 15 discoveries in 2019.

Guyana will ask international oil companies (IOCs) and oil trading firms next month for proposals to be the country’s agent.

Guyana officially shipped its very first batch of crude oil on Monday, when Exxon sent a Suezmax tanker loaded with a million barrels of the Liza sweet crude oil to one of its refineries in the United States.

The Exxon/Hess/CNOOC consortium are anticipating that production will reach 750,000 barrels per day by 2025, which would bring Guyana a serious oil exporter.

Shell won a bid to market the first three cargoes of oil from Guyana, after the Exxon Consortium launched its oil production from the Liza field ahead of schedule, less than five years after initial discovery.

Shell’s winning bid has been the source of some political controversy, with Guyana presidential hopeful Irfaan Ali vowing to review the terms of all of the oil deals signed by the current government, adding that the government was not transparent when it chose Shell to sell the first few oil cargoes, Reuters said on Thursday. Nine IOCs were invited to bid.

Guyana has said that it chose Shell in part because of the global reach of Shell’s trading operations, as well as its strong presence in Latin American markets.

EXXON fait passer de 6 à 8 milliards de barils de ressource récupérable au Guyana.
Exxon Strikes It Big In Guyana, Ups Resource Estimate To 8 Billion Barrels

By Tsvetana Paraskova - Jan 27, 2020

ExxonMobil has revised upward its estimate of recoverable resources offshore Guyana by 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent to 8 billion oil-equivalent barrels, the U.S. supermajor said on Monday, also announcing its 16th oil discovery on the Stabroek Block.

The recoverable resource base of 8 billion oil-equivalent barrels includes the fifteen previous discoveries that ExxonMobil and its partners had made offshore Guyana until the end of 2019. The new discovery, at the Uaru well, is just 10 miles northeast of the Liza oilfield, which is already producing oil.

Guyana officially joined the ranks of oil producing nations at the end of December, after Exxon and its partners began oil production offshore the South American country.

Days after launching Guyana’s first-ever crude oil production, Exxon announced its 15th discovery on the Stabroek Block. The discovery at the Mako-1 well adds to the previously announced estimated recoverable resource of more than 6 billion oil-equivalent barrels on the Stabroek Block, Exxon said on December 23.

And now, in its resource update today, Exxon announced its 16th find, the Uaru discover, which is its first of 2020 in offshore Guyana. The amount of oil will be added to the now 8-billion-barrel resource estimate at a later date.

Four drillships are currently exploring new resources and developing resources at approved projects offshore Guyana, Exxon said, adding that a fifth ship is set to be deployed later in 2020.

The Liza Phase 1 production is ramping up and will produce up to 120,000 bpd in the coming months. The floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) with 220,000-bpd capacity, which will be used for the Phase 2 development, is currently under construction and is expected to begin oil production by the middle of 2022.

Exxon also hopes production from the Payara oilfield north of the Liza discoveries could start as early as 2023, reaching 220,000 bpd. This development is subject to Guyana government approvals and project sanctioning, Exxon says.

Les revenus du gouvernement du Guyana avec le pétrole vont commencer avec 270 millions de dollars en 2020, et dans une décennie devraient arriver à 10 milliards de $.
Et avec moins de 1 million d' habitants ça va être la fête.
Guyana’s Economic Growth Jumps As Oil Production Soars

The economic fortunes of Guyana, with a population of only around 800,000, are poised for a major transformation after its first-ever oil development commenced production just six weeks ago. Offshore oil production is expected to grow rapidly in the years to come and will generate unprecedented revenues for the Guyanese government.

“Since the initial discovery in 2015 of the giant Liza oil field in the prolific Stabroek block, Guyana has discovered more than eight billion barrels of oil resources,” says Sonya Boodoo, Vice President of Upstream Research at Rystad Energy. “Liza was brought on stream in December and many more fields will follow suit in due course. Guyana’s rising oil revenues will make a huge difference in the continued development of the country. At the same time, in order for Guyana to realize the full potential of these resources, a stable regulatory and fiscal environment will be a key factor.”

Rystad Energy forecasts that Guyana’s oil production could reach 1.2 million barrels per day by the end of the decade, lifting total annual oil revenues to about $28 billion, assuming an oil price of about $65 per barrel. Government income in the country – projected to be a modest $270 million or so in 2020 – is forecast to grow rapidly and could reach nearly $10 billion annually within a decade. Putting that figure into context, Guyana’s gross domestic product currently stands at about $3.7 billion.

Guyana Reports 35,600 Bpd In Oil Production For December

By Irina Slav - Feb 19, 2020

Guyana produced 35,607 barrels of oil daily in December, the country’s Finance Ministry said, as quoted by Reuters, which added the government’s royalty on that production would be 2 percent.

Guyana is the newest entrant on the international oil market. It rose to industry fame after Exxon, in partnership with Hess Corp., made a string of discoveries off its coast that tapped reserves estimated at more than 5 billion barrels.

Commercial production began ahead of schedule. It was originally planned for the first quarter of this year, eventually reaching a daily production rate of 120,000 bpd.
