EWEC issues Request for Proposals for the development of the 140 MW Al Sila wind energy project

Together with existing wind energy assets, this new wind farm will double Abu Dhabi’s wind generation capacity to approximately 240 MW once operational.

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), a leading company in the integrated planning, purchasing, supply, and system despatch services of water and electricity across the UAE, today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to qualified companies for the development of the Al Sila Wind Independent Power Project (IPP), in close proximity to the existing utility-scale wind farm in Al Sila.

Once fully operational, Al Sila Wind will generate up to 140 megawatts (MW) AC of renewable energy, providing enough generation capacity to power 36,000 homes, and displace 190,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The project builds on Abu Dhabi’s existing wind farms located at Sila, Sir Bani Yas Island and Delma Island, and will increase Abu Dhabi’s wind generation capacity to approximately 240MW.

Dubai issues tender for 7th phase of giant solar park
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched a tender for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which could add up to 2 GW of PV capacity and 1 GW of battery storage.

DEWA has launched a tender for the construction of the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The tendered PV facility will have a capacity ranging from 1.6 GW to 2 GW and will be connected to 1 GW of battery capacity, which would be enough to provide six hours of storage.

DEWA said the project will be developed on an independent power project (IPP) basis. The selected developer will secure a long-term power purchase agreement. Developers have until March 25 to express their interest.

DEWA is now in the process of selecting the winners of the sixth phase of the project. The fifth phase of the 5 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has a capacity of 900 MW and is currently under construction.

By October 2022, the Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park had 1.83 GW of operational PV capacity. This included the 13 MW first phase, 200 MW second stage, the 800 MW third phase. Parts of the fourth and fifth phases are still under development.

ADNOC Drilling wins $1.15bn contract for two new-generation jack-up rigs

ADNOC’s drilling subsidiary ADNOC Drilling has secured a $1.15bn contract from the group’s upstream subsidiary ADNOC Offshore for two jack-up rigs, to be utilised over a 15-year period.

The contract aligns with existing agreements and is designed to support ADNOC Offshore’s expanding operations, generating consistent revenue and returns.

The company is among the largest offshore fleet owner globally with 47 rigs. ADNOC Drilling said that its extensive fleet allows the firm to respond swiftly to increasing demands while ensuring operational safety and reliability.

Hydrocarbures: la compagnie nationale émiratie fait une offre de 18,7 milliards de dollars sur l'australien Santos

Une filiale de la compagnie nationale d'hydrocarbures des Emirats arabes unis Adnoc a fait une offre sur l'intégralité du groupe énergétique australien Santos le valorisant à 18,7 milliards de dollars américains, ont annoncé les deux groupes lundi.

Santos, qui a des activités en Australie, en Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, au Timor oriental et aux Etats-Unis, est un fournisseur majeur de gaz naturel liquéfié en Australie et en Asie.

Le groupe australien a indiqué que son conseil d'administration avait l'intention "de recommander à l'unanimité que les actionnaires de Santos votent en faveur de la transaction" si les deux parties peuvent se mettre d'accord sur les termes de l'opération.

Le groupe émirati Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) a fait une offre de 5,76 dollars par action Santos, soit 18,72 milliards de dollars pour l'ensemble de la société.

Ce prix par action est supérieur de 28% au niveau de clôture de Santos vendredi.

Il s'agit d'une offre "finale, non contraignante" de la compagnie émiratie, qui avait fait en mars deux offres plus basses et restées confidentielles, a déclaré Santos.

Le titre du groupe australien gagnait 12% à la Bourse australienne ASX en début d'après-midi.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) says it has added 800 MW of solar to its flagship Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park this year alone. By the end of the decade, the site’s cumulative capacity is set to reach 7.26 GW.

The cumulative capacity of Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, billed as the largest single-site solar park in the world, has reached 3.86 GW, according to an update from DEWA.

Since the start of the year, DEWA has added 800 MW of solar to the project. Its cumulative capacity now accounts for 21.5% of the public infrastructure company’s total energy production capacity.

The first phase of the solar park, which incorporates both ground-mounted solar and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, was commissioned in October 2013. Work is currently underway on completing the site’s sixth phase, which will add a total of 1.8 GW of solar capacity.

In February, DEWA issued a call for developers to assist with the seventh phase of the project on an independent power producer (IPP) basis. The tendered PV facility will have a capacity ranging from 1.6 GW to 2 GW and will be connected to 1 GW of battery capacity, providing six hours of storage. Once complete, it will be one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects in the world.

In April, DEWA Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer announced that 47 global companies had expressed interest in developing the next phase.

By the end of the decade, the solar park’s capacity is on track to reach 7.26 GW, Al Tayer added, which would represent more than one-third of DEWA’s energy mix. The figure is up from an initial target of 5 GW.

Solaire photovoltaïque : Engie et Masdar remportent un énorme projet à Abou Dabi

La compagnie publique d'électricité d'Abou Dabi, la capitale des Émirats arabes unis, a annoncé vendredi l'attribution d'un projet de méga centrale solaire au groupe français Engie, en partenariat avec la société émiratie d'énergies renouvelables Masdar.

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) a chargé les deux compagnies de développer une centrale de 1,5 GW, avec près de trois millions de panneaux photovoltaïques, et signé avec elles des accords d'achats d'électricité, a indiqué l'entreprise dans un communiqué.

Une fois achevé, le projet Khazna Solar PV permettra de générer de l'électricité pour l'équivalent de 160 000 foyers dans l'émirat du Golfe et d'éviter plus de 2,4 millions de tonnes d'émissions de carbone par an, a-t-elle ajouté, sans donner de calendrier.

Le projet s'inscrit dans la stratégie d'EWEC visant à porter la capacité solaire d'Abou Dhabi à 18 GW d'ici à 2035, avec l'objectif de satisfaire 60% des besoins électriques de l'émirat par des énergies propres, selon la même source.

La plus grande installation photovoltaïque d'Engie dans le monde
Les Émirats arabes unis figurent parmi l'un des principaux exportateurs de pétrole au monde, mais ils investissent massivement dans les énergies renouvelables, sur leur territoire et à l'étranger, à travers la compagnie Masdar.

Le directeur général adjoint d'Engie, Paulo Almirante, cité dans le communiqué, a souligné que la centrale de Khazna sera "la plus grande installation photovoltaïque" du groupe français au niveau mondial.

Toujours selon le communiqué, la clôture financière du projet est prévu "d'ici la fin du quatrième trimestre 2025".

UAE Pioneers Gigascale Renewable Energy Project

The United Arab Emirates has broken ground on a combined solar power and battery storage facility designed to deliver one gigawatt (GW) of continuous, round-the-clock baseload renewable energy. The project, described by developers as the largest and most technologically advanced of its kind, represents a capital investment exceeding $6 billion.

The facility is being developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). Once operational in 2027, the system aims to overcome the intermittency challenges traditionally associated with renewable energy sources like solar and wind, according to statements from the companies.

Project Scope and Technology

The new infrastructure will integrate a 5.2 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 19 gigawatt-hours (GWh) battery energy storage system. Developers state the design incorporates advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced forecasting and intelligent dispatch capabilities for predictive analytics and system optimization.

The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, underscoring the government's support for the initiative.


According to the developers, the facility is projected to avoid approximately 5.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually while providing power at a globally competitive tariff.

ADNOC secures $11bn financing for Hail and Ghasha gas project

ADNOC, along with its partners Eni and PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), has signed a structured financing agreement of up to Dh40.4bn ($11bn) for the Hail and Ghasha gas development project.

This financing will be used to monetise future midstream gas production from the Hail and Ghasha project, part of the broader Ghasha concession, offshore Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Ghasha concession is forecast to deliver 1.8 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscf/d) of gas.

Engie boucle le financement de son plus grand projet solaire au Moyen-Orient

Engie a annoncé lundi le bouclage financier avec son partenaire émirati Masdar du projet solaire Khazna aux Émirats Arabes Unis (EAU), l'un des plus grands parcs photovoltaïques de la région et le plus important jamais développé par l'énergéticien français, d'une puissance de 1,5 gigawatt (GW).

"Ce jalon marque une étape décisive dans le développement de l'un des plus grands projets solaires de la région et la plus grande centrale photovoltaïque d'Engie à l'échelle mondiale", indique le groupe dans un communiqué.

"Une fois pleinement opérationnel, en 2028, Khazna Solar PV alimentera environ 160.000 foyers et réduira les émissions de CO? d'Abou Dhabi de plus de 2,4 millions de tonnes par an", ajoute-t-il.

Il ne dévoile pas le montant du contrat, mais indique que le prix de vente sera de 14,59 dollars par mégawattheure (MWh).

Le contrat d'achat d'électricité (Power Purchase Agreement, PPA), signé en octobre 2025 avec Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), s'étalera sur une durée de 30 ans. Il s'inscrit dans la stratégie d'EWEC visant à porter la capacité solaire d'Abou Dhabi à 18 GW d'ici 2035, avec l'objectif de satisfaire 60% des besoins énergétiques de l'émirat par des énergies renouvelables.

Les Emirats arabes unis figurent parmi les principaux exportateurs de pétrole au monde, mais ils investissent massivement dans les énergies renouvelables, sur leur territoire et à l'étranger, à travers la compagnie Masdar.

Les financements ont été sécurisés auprès de sept grandes banques, dont Abou Dhabi Islamic Bank, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, KfW IPEX, BNP Paribas, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank et Emirates Development Bank.

Engie souligne que ce projet marque la première mise en oeuvre d'un accord de coopération régional avec le chinois Longi, qui fournira des panneaux photovoltaïques, et PowerChina (ingénierie, approvisionnement et construction), "visant à mutualiser les expertises et les ressources pour développer des projets solaires de grande envergure (supérieurs à 800 MW) en Arabie Saoudite, aux EAU et au Maroc".

GNL : les Emirats annoncent un accord de plus de 2,5 milliards de dollars avec l'Inde

Les Emirats arabes unis ont annoncé lundi un accord d'approvisionnement en gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) avec l'Inde d'une valeur de plus de 2,5 milliards de dollars, faisant du pays asiatique le principal client du gaz émirati.

Le contrat, signé entre ADNOC Gas et Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), prévoit la fourniture de 0,5 millions de tonnes de GNL par an, sur une période de 10 ans, pour une valeur estimée entre 2,5 et 3 milliards de dollars, a indiqué la compagnie émiratie dans un communiqué.

Cela "porte la valeur totale des contrats conclu par ADNOC Gas à plus de 20 milliards de dollars" et fait de l'Inde "le plus grand client des Emirats arabes unis", a-t-elle ajouté.

D'ici 2029, ADNOC Gas fournira 15,6 millions de tonnes par an, dont 3,2 millions de tonnes à des compagnies indiennes, soit un peu plus de 20% du total, selon la même source.

Le contrat a été finalisé en marge de la visite du président émirati Mohammed ben Zayed à New Dehli, où il s'est entretenu avec le premier ministre Narendra Modi.

Les deux hommes ont salué la croissance des échanges commerciaux entre les deux pays depuis la signature d'un accord de libre-échange en 2022, et se sont engagés à les doubler pour atteindre 200 milliards de dollars d'ici 2032, a indiqué le gouvernement indien dans un communiqué.

Les deux parties se sont également engagées à "travailler ensemble sur un accord-cadre de partenariat stratégique en matière de défense et élargir leur coopération" dans ce secteur, a-t-il ajouté.
